Boatworks Yacht Sales was founded by Grove Ely in 1971. A family owned business that has been focused on selling new yachts for almost 35 years; two marinas, three offices and countless connections and contacts throughout the industry compliment us. Our staff of professionals averages over fifteen years of industry experience to bring to the aid of a customer considering a yacht purchase of any kind. We are proud of not only focusing on taking care of a customer's needs but also making the process seamless and fun.
Blue Star Yachts began with the desire to build a classically styled yacht with twin diesel propulsion and the latest in underbody design and build specification. It began with the 29.9, the success of which has been followed by the 36.6 and 36.6 MKII. We have built almost fifty boats each one with special elements designed to make them as unique as their owners. We do not build lightly equipped boats. Properly designed twin-engine propeller propulsion continues to be the most reliable, safest and by far the most easily handled style of boat available. The objective at Blue Star is to put as much as we can into the boat in design and finish, then price the boat at the best possible offering for a customer. The boats are not stripped or lacking in any of the finest equipment available. This philosophy not only cares for the new owner during their ownership, but also when it comes time to sell their Blue Star. While we have sold over fifteen of the Blue Star's on the used market to second owners, rarely does a Blue Star stay on the used market for long. Their resale has been strong and brisk: always a great indication of a yacht's longevity and value in the marketplace.
Boatworks and Grove Ely clearly defined an objective for a great group of yachts. The team of Mark Ellis and Mark Bruckmann were selected based not only on their status as leaders in their respective fields, but for long standing reputations for integrity. These are boats that not only will stand the test of time but also stand tall in any harbor. Take the time to seriously research all the competition. Sea trial the Blue Star and the competition. We are very proud of what Blue Star Yachts is made of.

Mark Ellis is described as an innovative yacht designer and businessman, whose work has included Nonesuch catboats, Niagara sloops, Northeast 400 & Bruckmann 50 motorsailors, the Blue Star, Limestone, Pilot and Legacy lines of powerboats along with a number of custom designs in power and sail. A business graduate from Boston University, Ellis worked for some of the foremost yacht design firms, such as C. Raymond Hunt Associates, Philip L. Rhodes Inc., and Little Harbor Boat Yard (Ted Hood) before moving to Canada to join C&C Yachts. In 1975 he founded Mark Ellis Design Ltd. in Oakville, Ontario, which continues in the yacht design field. He was awarded the Duggan Trophy for excellence in design by the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in 2004 and elected to the NMMA Canada Boating industry's Hall of Fame in January 2005.
The common threads of classic good looks, pleasing lines, practical features and excellent performance ties together all of Mark Ellis's designs. Whether sail or power, custom or production, pleasure or utility, their versatility and performance for a multiple range of tasks is evident. Although produced by several different builders, each of the Mark Ellis Designed boats are marked by a sense of pleasing proportion, knowledgeable use of materials and a meticulous attention to aesthetics and function not seen in today's mass-market products.
Apprenticed in the innovative offices of Hunt Associates and schooled in the classic traditions of Philip Rhodes, Mark Ellis began his design career in 1965.
"The perfect pocket cruiser," the Blue Star 29.9 was hailed as a breakthrough when it was launched in 2001. Built to exacting standards by Bruckmann Yachts for Boatworks Yacht Sales in Rowayton, Connecticut, the Blue Star combines a classic deep-V hull form and respect for traditional aesthetics with luxury accommodations and features normally found only in much larger cruisers.
The new Blue Star 36.6 offers expanded accommodations and features an “inclusive” layout offering a seamless flow between the exterior and interior spaces. The design achieves openness and light by eliminating walls and expanding windows. Built using the latest materials and technology, the highly efficient deep-v hull gives a smooth soft ride at any speed in any conditions. The Blue Star 36.6 is powered by twin Yanmar 315 hp turbo diesels as standard. Greater power options are available up to 440 hp.
The Mark Ellis Design office works closely with a number of builders and suppliers to develop tooling for new production lines as well as custom and one-of designs. Though the firm's view is traditional, the methodologies are not. Mark Ellis Design is highly skilled in all phases of CAD and the most advanced shape modeling and hydrostatic technologies, working in virtually any material, including composites, steel, aluminum and cold-molded construction. If you have a concept in mind, or if you'd simply like to explore the possibilities, please contact us.
